Russia deploys troops to Kursk – Reuters.
Ukrainian troops launched a surprise counteroffensive, crossing the border with Russia on Tuesday. In response, Russia has increased its military presence in the Kursk region, deploying additional tanks, artillery, and missile systems. Authorities have also introduced anti-terrorist measures in the border areas. This was reported by Reuters.
«Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces released a video allegedly showing them controlling a town near the border, marking the first evidence of their cross-border advance. Another video, posted on social media and confirmed by Reuters, shows new evidence of damage caused by the Ukrainian counteroffensive, featuring a column of about 15 burned-out Russian military trucks lined up along a road in the Kursk region»,– notes the publication.
In response, Acting Governor of the Kursk Region Alexei Smirnov stated that drone debris fell on an electrical substation near Kurchatov, which hosts one of Russia's largest nuclear power plants with four reactors. Power was temporarily cut off in the area.
In the Kursk region, drone debris collided, leading to a temporary power outage in the area of the Kurchatov nuclear power plant. The IAEA called for restraint from both sides.
«The head of the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency urged both sides to exercise restraint in light of the conflict's proximity to the plant, 60 km (35 miles) from the border. Russian diplomats in Vienna notified the IAEA that fragments, possibly from downed missiles, were found, although there is no evidence of an attack on the plant»,– the publication writes.
Two days after the Chief of Military Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin about the cessation of the offensive, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated, «that its forces continue to repel the attempt of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' invasion. Interfax quotes the ministry, noting that Russia is sending columns of reinforcements with Grad multiple rocket launch systems, artillery, and tanks.
Recall that Russia has introduced a counter-terrorism operation regime in three regions.
