Saudi Arabia may postpone the 2029 Asian Games due to problems with the ski resort.
According to The Sun: Saudi Arabia is facing difficulties in implementing plans for the construction of a ski resort in the desert, which was to be the venue for the 2029 Winter Asian Games. The planned location is the city of NEOM in the north of the country, however, the project has experienced significant delays and difficulties. In particular, artificial snow for the mountain trails is to be transported from the Caribbean Sea over a distance of 200 km, but the trails themselves are not yet ready for launch.
The NEOM plans, initiated in 2017 by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aimed to diversify the country's economy and move away from oil-based energy sources. However, against the backdrop of human rights violations and harsh conditions for workers, the prospects for implementing various projects in NEOM are in question.
