Prices for New Year's Fir Trees Have Increased: Where to Find Options from 150 Hryvnias in Kyiv.

According to ТСН: In the capital, with the approach of the New Year, more and more Christmas markets are filling the streets. Green beauties are available for every taste, but prices have increased by about 10% compared to last year. Artificial Christmas trees have also become more expensive.

How much Christmas trees cost now and which ones are better to choose was told by TSN correspondent Olena Loskun.

Prices at the Capital's Fairs

At the Christmas market in Kyiv, customers have already lined up. Prices for live fir trees have increased by 10% this year.

Tree prices depend on height, fullness, and color of the foliage:

“This is our Danish fir tree. It is almost always green. Its price varies from 1700. Larger ones start from 2500 and can reach up to 6000 UAH. These kinds of pines vary from 500 and higher,” says the seller.

There are also compositions of branches available, with prices ranging from 250 to 450 UAH. About one and a half hundred official Christmas markets will operate in Kyiv.

Options from Foresters and Potted Trees

You can buy a New Year's beauty much cheaper from foresters. The assistant of the forest ranger from Zhytomyr region Oleksandr Yaremchuk showed a plantation where European firs and pines grow:

“On an area of 1.9 hectares, there are approximately over 14 thousand New Year's fir trees,” he says.

Prices for firs and pines here are approximately the same:

• The cheapest trees will cost somewhere around 150 hryvnias.

• For real giants up to 5 meters tall, they ask up to a thousand hryvnias.

For each cut tree, foresters have a special tag confirming its legal origin. This year, the State Forestry Enterprise 'Forests of Ukraine' plans to sell about 140 thousand coniferous trees.

Another popular option is potted trees. Although their price is not budget-friendly, they can be planted outside after the holidays.

“The Serbian fir tree starting from 40 cm — from 500 UAH, up to 1.50 m it can reach 2-3-4 thousand,” says the deputy head of the department of shopping center network Olga Shablii.

Artificial Beauties

This year's artificial firs and pines have increased in price by approximately 5-10%.

“PVC fir trees are in the economy segment. The cheapest large fir tree, for example, a tabletop one, costs 200-300 UAH. And, for example, this fir tree 2.10 — is the most popular size among apartment owners — 3500, 2000 thousand, approximately up to 4000,” says the deputy head of the department of shopping center network Olga Shablii.

A PVC fir tree will retain its splendor for only 2-3 years. A more advantageous option is the so-called “molded” fir tree, which can last at least 10 years and looks more like a real tree.

• The price segment for a molded fir tree starts from 2 to 6 thousand hryvnias for popular sizes (1.80–2.10 m).

• Snow-covered beauties are also popular: a 2.10 m fir tree costs nearly 12 thousand hryvnias.
