On Saturday, August 16, Ukrainian believers celebrate the Third Spas — Nut or Bread Spas. On this holiday, nuts, fresh bread, pastries, honey, ripe fruits, and herbs are brought to church. However, there are specific rules regarding what can and cannot be brought to the temple.

When is the Nut Spas celebrated in 2025

According to the New Julian calendar, the Nut Spas is celebrated on August 16, and according to the old style — on August 29.

This holiday is associated with the harvest and baking of new bread.

What can be blessed on the Nut Spas

On the Nut Spas, you can bring:

Nuts:

  • walnuts,
  • hazelnuts,
  • almonds,
  • peanuts.

You can also bring seasonal fruits, bread and flour products, honey, water, and other symbolic items.

Prohibited products for the holiday

You cannot bring money, wallets, documents, alcohol, blood dishes, jewelry, and other luxury items. It is also advisable to avoid dishes made with last year's products.

Advice for preparing the basket

Keep in mind that holy products should be from the new harvest, and blessed food should not be thrown away. Remember to respect traditions and rituals.
