The True Sound of Steve Buscemi's Last Name
According to The Sun: Steve Buscemi talked about the correct pronunciation of his last name, and fans finally realized that they had been mispronouncing it for many years.
The 67-year-old actor from the series Boardwalk Empire visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he gave some advice to his fans.
GettyWhile talking to Jimmy, Steve mentioned his role in the new Apple TV show, The Studio.
Jimmy noted that it's one of the funniest shows he has ever seen and highlighted the scenes where the actors stumbled over the pronunciation of his last name.
Steve smiled and explained that they were having fun with it in the script, and it was originally written: 'who is this guy with the big eyes.'
'At one point, they were saying 'Brush-kemi,' like the word 'bruschetta',' Jimmy recalled.
'I didn't like it, but I like 'Boo-semi',' Steve joked.
The actor explained: 'That's the Italian pronunciation, but I didn't grow up that way.'
'Since childhood, we've said 'Bue-semi,' but I can't say that anymore,' he added.
Steve admitted that he often pronounces his last name as 'boo' and 'semi.'
'I kind of take a little bit from each pronunciation,' he added. 'I don't know how to pronounce my own name.'
Jimmy emphasized that they once discussed this during Steve's appearance on a stand-up show, asking which last name he was using at that time.
Steve replied: 'I shortened it to Bus, you know.'
'Can you imagine how much fun the hosts had with this?' he added.
The new Netflix show, Wednesday, features several well-known stars, including Billy Power, Joanna Lumley, and Thandiwe Newton, Lady Gaga, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Steve plays the role of Director Dort in the Nevermore Academy after the death of his predecessor Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie).
The actor also appeared in two major Quentin Tarantino films: in Reservoir Dogs, where he played Mr. Pink, and in Pulp Fiction alongside Uma Thurman and John Travolta.
