Fines and even administrative arrest: how Ukrainian drivers can be punished for a common violation.

Ukrainians were explained how drivers can be punished for an expired first aid kit or fire extinguisher.

Attorney and Master of Law Yevhenia Bulymenko explained this in a comment to RBK-Ukraine.

Safety on the roads is the responsibility of every driver. One of the traffic rules concerns the equipment of the car. Having a working fire extinguisher and a current car first aid kit is not a formality, but an important requirement that can save lives in critical situations. Many drivers forget to update these items in a timely manner.

For expired first aid kits or faulty fire extinguishers, drivers of personal cars and carriers providing services to citizens can be fined.

The expert noted that according to the Traffic Rules (TR), the driver of a vehicle must have:

• first aid kit
• fire extinguisher
• emergency stop sign.

If a driver violates the rules regarding the operation or use of a vehicle, they can be administratively punished. For violations provided for in part 1 of article 121 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, a fine of 340 hryvnias is provided.

However, the situation becomes more serious if we are talking about a vehicle intended for passenger transportation. The absence of a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, or emergency stop sign is considered a serious violation. For this, according to part 2 of article 121 of the CUoAO, a fine of 680 hryvnias is imposed.

Repeated violation within a year may have the following consequences:

• imposition of a fine from 50 to 100 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens (from 850 to 1700 hryvnias) and revocation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 3 to 6 months
• administrative arrest for a period of 5 to 10 days.
