Swedish Coast Guard Seizes Russian 'Shadow Fleet' Vessel Carrying Stolen Ukrainian Grain.
Caffa Vessel Seized in Baltic Operation
According to UATV: During an operation codenamed 'Black Coffee,' the Swedish Coast Guard intercepted a vessel from Russia's so-called 'shadow fleet' in the Baltic Sea. The ship, named the Caffa, was sailing under a false flag in the area where it was detained. Notably, the Caffa is listed on Ukraine's sanctions registry. This action highlights ongoing Western efforts to disrupt sanctions evasion networks supporting Russia's war effort.
Investigators had previously identified the Caffa as a carrier of grain stolen from Ukraine. According to available information, the vessel arrived from Casablanca and was likely en route to Saint Petersburg. The interception was carried out with the assistance of a police helicopter.
International Sanctions Enforcement
An investigation is currently underway to determine the vessel's true owner. This incident underscores the intensity of international efforts to monitor maritime traffic in regions affected by sanctions.
The seizure of the Caffa in the Baltic Sea marks a significant step in combating smuggling and violations of sanctions imposed on Russia for its actions in Ukraine. Operation 'Black Coffee' reaffirms the commitment of Sweden and allied nations to patrol shipping lanes, particularly within the context of the ongoing conflict. Such enforcement measures could pose serious consequences for Russian economic interests tied to the transport of illicitly obtained resources.
