Arsen Borissovitch Awakow - Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (2014-2021). People's Deputy of Ukraine (2012-2014), Chairman of the Kharkiv Oblast (2005-2010), Deputy of the Kharkiv Oblast Council.

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Baku into a military family. Has lived in Ukraine since 1966. Graduated in 1988 from Kharkiv Polytechnic University with a degree in automation systems and systems engineering.

Career. While studying at the university, Awakow worked in the summer of 1985 as a foreman at Construction Administration No. 18 of the New Urengoy Gassroy Construction Combine in Tyumen Oblast. In the summer of 1986 - foreman of the student construction unit BMP-522 PSO Tjumendorstroi of the Urengoitransstroi construction combine.

1987-1990 - Engineer at the Kharkiv Institute of Water Protection. Engaged in scientific work, particularly in the field of mathematical modeling.

In 1990 he founded the AG 'Investor', where he took the office of president.

In 1992, he founded and led the commercial bank Basis.

In 2002, he was elected to the executive committee of the Kharkiv City Council.

On February 4, 2005, he was appointed chairman of the Kharkiv regional government by decree of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.

On February 5, 2010, he was relieved of his duties as head of Kharkiv regional government.

Awakow was a member of the Our Ukraine party and its presidium. Since 2006 - Deputy of the Kharkiv Oblast Council from Our Ukraine, member of the budget commission. Since autumn 2010 - Deputy of the Oblast Council from the Batkivshchyna party (leader - Yulia Tymoshenko). He heads the Batkivshchyna regional organization in Kharkiv.

Since December 2012, he has been a Deputy of Ukraine's VII. Congress of Batkivshchyna (No. 24 on the list). Member of the Committee on Rules, Parliamentary Ethics, and Support for the Activities of the Ukrainian Parliament.

On February 27, 2014, he was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk. He was replaced in office by Vitali Shkryak.

On December 2, 2014, the parliament approved a new cabinet, where Arsen Awakow retained the position of Minister of Internal Affairs.

On April 14, 2016, the parliament sent Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk into retirement and voted for the election of Volodymyr Groysman to his post. On that day, the parliament also approved a new government, in which Awakow retained the title of Minister of Internal Affairs.

On August 29, 2019, the parliament approved a new government, and Arsen Awakow was reappointed as Minister of Internal Affairs.

On March 4, 2020, the parliament voted for the resignation of Oleksiy Honcharuk as Prime Minister, which led to the resignation of the entire government. On the same day, the parliament approved a new government, and Arsen Awakow was again appointed Interior Minister of Ukraine.

On July 13, 2021, Arsen Awakow submitted his resignation as Interior Minister. On July 15 the parliament approved the resignation of Arsen Awakow as head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Status and Assets. In February 2008, the magazine Focus ranked Awakow 67th on its list of the 130 richest Ukrainians. The publication's experts estimated the net worth of the Kharkiv regional governor at $385 million. It was noted that a year earlier it was $300 million.

The 'Basis' Bank was registered in 1992 by the National Bank of Ukraine. It has branches in Dnipro and Kyiv. In May 1995, it merged with the former Kharkiv investment commercial bank for the development of light industry Interstroybank.

The Basis is part of the financially industrial group Investor. The founder and owner of the controlling stake in shares (50.55% of the bank's authorized capital) is AG Investor, whose main 'controller' is Awakow.

According to Focus, FIU Investor coordinates the activities of about 40 joint ventures. Among them in the energy sector, in the production and sale of the popular Ukrainian brand Achmad.

Awards. Honored Economist of Ukraine. Author of 12 scientific publications and one monograph.

Charity. Awakow is a co-founder of several charitable organizations as a private individual.

The Marianne Awakowa Fund provides support to orphanages, boarding schools, and orphans.

The charitable organization 'Star Bridge' hosts an annual international fantasy festival, publishes fantasy literature, and conducts public and educational work in orphanages, schools, and universities.

The Renaissance charitable foundation conducts charitable actions, concerts, auctions, restores and revives monuments of history and architecture, and grants scholarships to young scientists, scientific programs, and the artistic development of children.

Family. Married, has a son named Alexander (born 1988).
