Alena Valeriyivna Babak - Politician and Expert

Alena Valeriyivna Babak - former Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine. She is a Ukrainian politician and an expert in the field of housing and communal services. Alena Babak is a former Member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation from the Samopomich Union party. She is the director of LLC "Institute for Local Development".

Place of birth. Education. Alena Babak was born on September 27, 1969, in the city of Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region.

In 1996, she graduated from the Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages with a degree in "Foreign Languages," earning a qualification as a teacher of foreign languages (English and French) with distinction.

In 1996, she won a grant competition for studying in the USA supported by the Edmund Muskie Foundation, and in 1998 she earned a master's degree in "Business Administration" with a specialization in "Finance" from Old Dominion University (Virginia, USA).

Career. Since 1998, Alena Babak has worked as an entrepreneur, international project manager, senior specialist in pricing and financial management in the housing and communal sector and local development.

Since 2004 and up to the present time, she has been a board member and co-founder of the All-Ukrainian Charitable Organization "Institute for Local Development," where she is an expert in financial management and pricing in the housing and communal sector.

Since April 2012 - member of the Scientific Advisory Council at the National Commission, which carries out state regulation in the field of communal services.
Since March 2014 - member of the working group on reforming housing and communal services under the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine.

Political career. From November 27, 2014, to August 2019, Alena Babak was a Member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation, elected by the party list of the Samopomich Union. During the convocation, she held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Construction, Urban Development, and Housing and Communal Services. She was also the co-chair of the inter-factional deputy association "Equal Opportunities".

On August 29, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada approved the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers, and Alena Babak was appointed Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.

Scientific activity. She has 30 scientific papers on the reform of housing and communal services and regulation of the activities of natural monopolies.

On February 4, 2020, Alena Babak was released from the position of Minister of Communities and Territories Development. She wrote a resignation letter voluntarily.
