Arkadiy Arkadievich Babchenko is a Russian journalist and prose writer, war correspondent, and publisher. After the onset of repression and persecution of journalists in Moscow, he moved to Prague. Later, he moved to Ukraine.

Place of birth. Education. He was born on March 18, 1977, in a family of an engineer-designer and a teacher of the Russian language and literature. In 1993, he graduated from school. In 1995, he was drafted into the army, served in the North Caucasus, served in the signals troops, and participated in the First Chechen War. He was demobilized in 1997.

He graduated from the law faculty of the Modern Humanitarian University with a bachelor's degree in jurisprudence in international law.

After the start of the Second Chechen War, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and participated in the 'counter-terrorist operation'. He served as a communications specialist, then in motorized rifle troops, and later became a commander in a grenade launcher platoon. In 2000, he was demobilized with the rank of senior sergeant of the guards.

Career. He started his career in journalism. He worked as a war correspondent for the 'Moscow Komsomolets', then as a correspondent for the 'Forgotten Regiment' program (NTV - TV-6 - TVS), collaborated with newspapers, magazines, and television programs: 'Peasant Russia', 'Army Store' ('First Channel'), 'Postscript' (TVC) and others.

He temporarily left journalism and worked as a taxi driver for a while, after which he became a war correspondent for 'Novaya Gazeta', but was fired after some time. He was a war correspondent during the armed conflict in South Ossetia in 2008.

He has been outspoken in his criticism of the Putin regime in Russia and condemns the Russian military aggression against Ukraine.

On February 21, 2017, Babchenko reported that due to constant threats to him and his family, he decided to leave Russia and was in Prague. In July 2017, he lived in Israel, and from August 2017 to May 2018, he was in Kyiv.

From October 2017 to September 2019, he hosted the program 'Prime: Babchenko' on the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR.

On November 3, 2019, it became known that Arkadiy Babchenko left Kyiv and moved to another country due to his disagreement with the policies of the current Ukrainian government. In December 2019, Babchenko wrote that he was in Israel but was under threat of deportation from this country, left without work and money.

Creativity. Arkadiy Babchenko is considered one of the founders of modern military prose. He was one of the first to describe contemporary Russian wars in a literary style. Babchenko's books have been translated into 16 languages and published in 22 countries around the world. He is the publisher of the magazine 'Art of War'.

Assassination Scenario. On May 29, 2018, media reported that an unknown person shot Babchenko in his Kyiv apartment; the journalist died on the way to the hospital. On May 30, it turned out that Babchenko's murder was staged - the live and healthy journalist appeared at a scheduled press conference of the Security Service. Head of the SBU Vasiliy Gritsak stated that Babchenko's murder was commissioned by Russian special services, and to apprehend the organizers, law enforcement staged the journalist's death. The suspect in organizing the murder was detained the same day in Kyiv.
