Biography of Nikolai Ivanovich Balan
Date of Birth: 12.12.1968
Nikolai Ivanovich Balan is a Ukrainian military, Colonel General, former commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
Place of Birth. Education. Born on December 12, 1968, in the village of Staryi Lisets, Tysmenytsia District, Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
In 1992, he graduated from the Saratov Higher Military Command Red Banner School named after Dzerzhinsky of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RSFSR.
In 2003, he graduated from the National Academy of Border Guard Troops of Ukraine.
In 2017, he graduated with honors from the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine.
Career. He held officer positions from platoon commander to head of the Crimea Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Since 2010 - head of the administration of the Crimea Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
On April 18, 2014, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine by a decree of the President of Ukraine.
On August 23, 2014, he was awarded the military rank of Lieutenant General.
From February 6, 2015, to December 31, 2015, he served as Acting Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, and since May 7, 2019, he has again been Acting Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
On June 13, 2019, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Nikolai Balan as the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
On August 23, 2020, he was awarded the military rank of Colonel General.
On January 27, 2022, Nikolai Balan resigned due to the shooting in Dnipro, resulting in the deaths of five people and five injuries.
Awards. Awarded the Orders of 'For Merit' II and III degrees, the medal 'For Military Service to Ukraine'.
