He was the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Russian Legal Academy of the Ministry of Justice of the RF (Northwestern Branch) and Professor at the Department of 'State and Legal Theory'. Full member of the Petrovskaya Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Russian Academy of Social Sciences, the Baltic Pedagogical Academy.
Awards. General Colonel of Justice. Honored Lawyer of the RF. Awarded the Order of the Holy Prince Vladimir I Class, the Order 'For Merits to the Fatherland' IV Class.
Entry in Sanction Lists. Russian human rights activists have repeatedly called for Bastrykin to be included in the so-called Magnitsky List and other sanction lists targeting the suppression of opposition forces in Russia and the work of foreign non-governmental organizations across the USA and European countries.
On January 9, 2017, Alexander Bastrykin was included in the Magnitsky List by the USA. On February 21, 2017, the British House of Commons passed a special law similar to the American Magnitsky Sanctions Act that included Bastrykin along with other Russian citizens.
Bastrykin was included in the sanctions list by Ukraine and charged with initiating law enforcement actions against senior officials of Ukraine and Ukrainian military personnel. Included in the sanctions lists of Ukraine in the case of Nadija Sawtschenko, who was convicted by a Russian court. On April 12, 2016, Lithuania announced the inclusion of Bastrykin in the list of individuals banned from entering Lithuania due to the verdict issued by a Russian court against Sawtschenko.
