Biography of Igor Mikhailovich Benedisjuk

Benedisjuk Igor Mikhailovich – Judge, member of the Supreme Judicial Council, Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council (2015-2019).

Place of Birth. Education. Born in the village of Veliky Luh in the Krasnoarmeysk district of the Zhytomyr region. In 1991, he graduated from the law faculty of the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR in Moscow. In 2006 - Institute of Intellectual Property and Law.

Career. From January to May 1984, Igor Benedisjuk worked as a class 3 driver in the special vehicle department of Nowograd-Volynsk.

1984-1986 - Military service.

From July 1991 to April 1994 - Judge at the military court in the Russian city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (unit 62980). It is noteworthy that the activity as a judge in a military court of the Russian Federation over a period of three years suggests that Benedisjuk likely acquired Russian citizenship.

In February 1994 - Judge at the military court of the Kyiv garrison.

In April 2015, Igor Benedisjuk was appointed as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council under the quota procedure of the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Benedisjuk himself denies that he is a 'man of Poroshenko' - he was elected to the Supreme Judicial Council by the Competition Commission.

On June 9, 2015, Benedisjuk was appointed as the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council. In a secret ballot, all 17 members of the Supreme Judicial Council unanimously voted for his election. Benedisjuk will lead the Supreme Judicial Council for two years.

On January 12, 2017, according to the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council of January 12, 2017, the Supreme Judicial Council was reorganized by transforming it into the Supreme Court, and the members of the Supreme Judicial Council received the status of members of the Supreme Court and exercise the powers of members of the Supreme Court. The Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council received the status and exercises the powers of the Chairman of the Supreme Court.

On May 30, 2017, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Igor Benedisjuk was re-elected to this position.

April 16, 2019 Igor Benedisjuk made a statement requesting to terminate his powers as Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council.
