Biography of Sasha Borovik
Date of Birth: 07.04.1968
Place of Birth. Education. Sasha Borovik was born in Lviv. He studied at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Lviv State University, where he studied English and French. Later, he enrolled in the Faculty of the KGB Institue, which was responsible for counterintelligence in the USSR, but left the training in his fourth year of study. At the age of 21, he moved to the Czech Republic, where he completed his legal studies at Charles University in Prague. He also studied law at Harvard University.
In addition to Ukrainian, he is fluent in English, Russian, Czech, German, Spanish, and French.
Career. Sasha Borovik began his career at a large law firm in Silicon Valley. At Microsoft (USA), he worked as a lawyer and rose to become a full-time employee for government and international affairs over 12 years.
Since March 2014 - Chief Legal Counsel of the EMEA Region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) at Akamai, a company that provides cloud internet services and is responsible for almost 30% of global internet traffic.
He is one of the co-founders of VioSignal Group, Corp in New York.
On February 20, 2015, Borovik was presented as a candidate for the position of Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade of Ukraine (Ivaras Abramovichus). It was planned that he would oversee the work of five departments of the ministry and be responsible for deregulation, improving the investment attractiveness of Ukraine, economic strategy, and international donation programs.
In March, Borovik, who previously held German citizenship, received Ukrainian citizenship.
However, in May 2015, a press release from the Ministry of Economic Development clarified that Borovik had not received a final appointment and had never officially worked in the ministry. For almost three months, he was an advisor, participating in meetings and some activities of the ministry. The statement emphasized: 'It is important that all those who advise the Ministry of Economy and Trade of Ukraine can cooperate constructively. Therefore, the ministry has decided to sever all ties with Mr. Borovik.'
According to representatives of the 'Self-help' faction, Borovik's appointment was somehow blocked by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, so he had to leave the Cabinet.
In June 2015, the governor of the Odessa regional administration, Mikheil Saakashvili, appointed Borovik as his advisor; Borovik became the head of the agency's investment and development issues department.
In the local elections in the fall of 2015, Borovik ran for mayor of Odessa for the Petro Poroshenko Bloc 'Solidarity' and was on the party's electoral list in the city council. However, he lost to the incumbent mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov.
On May 4, 2016, he resigned from his position as deputy head of the Odessa regional administration to allow the new public service law to take effect but remained as an advisor to the head of the regional administration on investment issues.
On April 29, 2017, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree stripping Alexander Borovik of Ukrainian citizenship. This is because Borovik holds German citizenship.
