Zuzana Čaputová - Slovak politician, lawyer, activist, President of the Slovak Republic, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Slovakia since June 15, 2019.

Place of birth. Education. Zuzana Čaputová was born on June 21, 1973, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. She grew up in Pezinok, a town near the Slovak capital.

In 1996, Zuzana successfully graduated from the Faculty of Law at Comenius University in Bratislava.

Career. After completing her studies, Zuzana Čaputová initially worked as a legal assistant at the Pezinok city hall and later as deputy head. for many years in the civic initiative VIA IURIS.

She later worked in the non-profit sector at the Open Society Foundation, where she led state management and the problem of children affected by violence and exploitation. She was a project manager in the civic initiative EQ Club for local development.

As a lawyer at VIA IURIS, Zuzana Čaputová led a campaign for 14 years against the construction of a landfill that polluted the soil, air, and water in Pezinok and the surrounding area. The case ended in 2013 when the Supreme Court of Slovakia ruled that the landfill was illegal. In 2014, the residents of the village of Smolenice used the help of Zuzana Čaputová to stop the construction of a waste incineration plant that used a new, untested technology to convert waste into fuel and electricity. For her efforts, Čaputová received the Goldman Environmental Award in 2016, the most prestigious award in the field of environmental protection worldwide.

Political Career. Zuzana Čaputová has been a co-founder and deputy chairwoman of the social-liberal party Progressive Slovakia since 2017.

In March 2018, Čaputová announced her intention to run in the 2019 presidential elections. Her candidacy was supported by two other parties, SaS and SPOLU. Čaputová won the first round of the elections with 40.5% of the votes. In the second round, Čaputová received 58.4% of the votes and defeated Maroš Šefčovič, an independent candidate supported by the ruling Smer-SD party. Čaputová became the fifth Slovak president and the first female president in the history of Slovakia.

On June 15, 2019, Zuzana Čaputová took office as President of Slovakia.

Views. Čaputová is a pro-European politician. She supports the rights of LGBT people to same-sex marriage and adoption as well as the right to abortion.

Personal Life. Čaputová is divorced and has two daughters.
