Place of Birth. Education.

Alexander Cherevko was born in the village of Vodyaniki in the Svenigorodsky district of Cherkasy region.

In 1977, he graduated from the Cherkasy Financial Technical College and in 1985, he received training at the Kishinev State University with a degree in 'Finance and Credit'. He is also a Doctor of Economics.

Career.

After finishing the eighth grade, he worked as a porter in a collective farm and, after college, became an economist in the department of GOSBANK of the USSR (Moldavian SSR).

From 1979 to 1991, he was a representative of the USSR Construction Bank and led the departments of the Construction Bank, Promstroibank and Agroprombank in Rezina, Moldova.

From 1991 to 1996, he headed the department of Agroprombank 'Ukraine' in Zolotonosha.

From 1996 to 2004, he was the head of the National Bank department in the Cherkasy region.

From 2003 to 2004, he worked as a lecturer at the Kiev branch of the Lviv Banking Institute of the National Bank of Ukraine. Additionally, he served as an advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine on a voluntary basis (years 2000-2001) and assistant-advisor to deputy Viktor Yushchenko (year 2002).

In July 2004, he headed the election headquarters of Viktor Yushchenko in the Cherkasy region for the presidency of Ukraine.

In February 2005, he was appointed head of the Cherkassy regional administration by the decree of President Viktor Yushchenko.

In March 2010, Alexander Cherevko was dismissed by President Viktor Yanukovych due to the 'unsatisfactory situation in the Cherkasy region, especially in the Kaniv-Taras Shevchenko Memorial Complex'. 'The indifference, irresponsibility and neglect of the national shrine Kobyzar, the Shevchenko Memorial, shocked the President of Ukraine during his visit to the Shevchenko National Park in Kaniv on March 9, on the occasion of the writer's birthday,' said a statement from the head of state.

He was a deputy in the Cherkasy Regional Council for two terms and head of the faction 'Our Ukraine'. He was a member of the presidium of this party.

Since July 2014, Alexander Cherevko has served as rector, and since April 2015, he has been the rector of the Cherkasy National University named after Bogdan Khmelnytsky.

Family.

He is married. He has a son (born in 1983) and a daughter (born in 1986).
