Biography of Valentin Ivanovich Derkach

Date of Birth:19.07.1939

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Dnepropetrovsk. In 1970, he graduated from the physics and technology faculty of Dnepropetrovsk University (in the specialty 'Mechanical Engineering'). In 1973, he completed the advanced courses of the KGB of the RSFSR.

Career. He worked at the 'Yuzhmash' plant (Dnepropetrovsk) and in enterprises of the rocket industry.

From 1972 - at the KGB of the USSR in the Dnepropetrovsk region. He was the deputy director of the Pavlograd Mechanical Plant and the head of the Pavlograd division of the KGB.

Since December 1992 - head of the State Service of Ukraine for Technical Security.

From August 1994 to July 1995 - First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Valery Malikov.

From July 1995 to April 1998 - Head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

From April 1998 to October 2001 - Head of the Security Service of Ukraine.

2002-2006 - People's Deputy of Ukraine in the IV Convocation (from constituency No. 36 in Dnepropetrovsk). Member of the factions of the parties of industrialists and entrepreneurs of Ukraine and 'Labor Ukraine'. Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legislative Activities in the Field of Law Enforcement.

Awards. Army General. Active State Advisor of the Customs Service.

Family. Married. His son Andrey Derkach (born 1967) - People's Deputy of Ukraine from the Party of Regions.

Death. He died on January 14, 2022, at the age of 83 in Kyiv from a heart attack. Buried at the Lesnoye Cemetery in Kyiv.
