Rudolf William Louis Giuliani is an American politician, cybersecurity advisor to Donald Trump, former prosecutor, and mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001 representing the Republican Party.

Place of Birth. Education. He was born on May 28, 1944, in the Brooklyn district of New York City in a Catholic family. His father, Harold Giuliani, was a plumber, and his mother, Helen, was an accountant. Four of his uncles were police officers, and one was a firefighter. Rudy Giuliani graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn (1961), City College in the Bronx (1965), and the law school at New York University (1968, with honors).

In his youth, he sympathized with the Democratic Party, which traditionally dominated New York City. In the mid-1970s, he registered as an independent, and in December 1980, a month after Ronald Reagan's victory in the presidential election, he officially became a Republican.

Political Career. In 1989, he first ran for the office of mayor of New York City as a Republican, but narrowly lost to Democrat David Dinkins (49% to 51%). In 1993, he ran again for the office of mayor and this time defeated Dinkins - 49% to 46%, becoming the second Republican to hold this position. He campaigned on platforms of fighting crime, cutting taxes, and improving the quality of life. In 1997, he was re-elected for a second term, defeating Ruth Messinger by an 18-point margin - 59% to 41%.

In this position, he managed to achieve significant successes in improving living conditions in the city, reducing crime rates, and generally enhancing the image of the country's largest city. Giuliani's efforts and the work of the city police led to a sharp decline in crime levels in the city.
