Career. Since 1986, Egorov served as Inspector, Senior Inspector, and later Deputy Head of the Boryspil Customs of the State Customs Committee of Ukraine. From January 1992 to January 1996, he was Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Ukraine. After that, he held the position of First Deputy Head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine until October 2003. He then headed the Kyiv Center for Qualification and Training of Customs Officers of Ukraine for two years.

On September 23, 2005, he was appointed head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine by a decree of President Viktor Yushchenko. He remained in office under two Prime Ministers from different political camps - the 'Our Ukraine' of Yulia Tymoshenko and the 'Regions' of Viktor Yanukovych.

On December 20, 2007, two days after the appointment of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and the formation of a new government, he resigned. Previously, representatives of BYuT had repeatedly called for Egorov's dismissal and accused the Customs Service of corruption.

Nevertheless, the chair under the head of the service was fundamentally undermined much earlier before the executive arrived. In mid-November, Yushchenko sharply criticized customs officials at a special meeting at the SBU. In particular, the President was concerned about the significant flow of smuggled goods and the manifestations of corruption in the customs service.

'You are losing courage, you have no energy. Why can you not resist the rogues you lead?', the head of state said to Egorov at the time. And he suggested that in case of failure to cope with the negative situation, he should resign.

On January 16, 2014, he voted for the 'dictatorial laws' - a package of undemocratic laws that significantly restricted the rights of citizens and freedom of speech.
