Biography of Francois Fillon
Francois Charles Armand Fillon is a French politician and activist. He was born on March 4, 1954, in Le Mans, in the Sarthe department in the northwest of the country. His father was a lawyer, and his mother, Anne Fillon, was a well-known French historian. In school, he was one of the best students and received a good education.
In 1977, he obtained a degree in administrative law from Paris Descartes University in Paris. He also earned a degree in political science from the National Foundation for Political Science.
'Fillon is the second longest-serving Prime Minister of the Fifth Republic after Georges Pompidou (1962-1968). He is the only one who was Prime Minister of France during a full presidential term.'
Fillon began his political career in 1976-1977 as an assistant to the member of parliament from the Sarthe representation office. He then served as an assistant in various ministries, including the Ministry of Transport, Defense, and Industry.
From 1981 to 1998, Francois Fillon was the mayor of the municipality of Sablé-sur-Sarthe and held various other responsible positions in the administration and the Sarthe parliament. From 1993 to 1995, he was Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and from 2002 to 2004, he was Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, and Solidarity.
On May 17, 2007, Fillon was appointed Prime Minister of France by then-President Nicolas Sarkozy and served in that position until May 10, 2012.
In November 2016, he prepared for the presidential elections but reached the runoff, where he lost to Emmanuel Macron.

In February 2017, Fillon was involved in a financial scandal when investigations revealed that his wife Penelope was paid for work she actually did not perform. This led to a loss of popularity among voters.
Francois Fillon is a lawyer by profession, married to Penelope Clarke, and has five children.
