Štefan Füle

Date of Birth: 24.05.1962
Place of Birth. Education. Born in Sokolov, Czechoslovakia. In 1981, he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University, and in 1986 he graduated from MGIMO. He speaks English and Russian.
Career. He worked in the UN Relations Department of the Czechoslovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and participated in the UN disarmament program.
From 1982 to 1989, he was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. Since 1989, he has been a member of the Czech Social Democratic Party.
From 1990 to 1995, Štefan Füle was the first secretary of the Czechoslovak (later Czech) delegation to the United Nations.
From 1995 to 1996, he headed the UN Relations Department of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from 1996 to 1998 he led the Security Policy Department at the same place.
From 1998 to 2001, Štefan Füle was the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Lithuania.
From 2003 to 2005, he was the Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
From 2005 to 2009, he was the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to NATO.
From 2001 to 2002, Štefan Füle was the Deputy Minister of Defence.
From May to November 2009, he was the Minister for European Affairs.
From February 9, 2010, to October 31, 2014, he was the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy. He was part of the second EU Commission led by José Manuel Barroso. He replaced Vladimír Špidla as the representative of the Czech Republic in the EU Commission. In 2014, Štefan Füle was succeeded by the Austrian Johannes Hahn.
