Views and assessments. Geletey's name became known to the general public during the height of the acute political conflict between the president and the ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych. Geletey in his public speeches followed a tough anti-coalition line of the presidential secretariat, criticizing the actions or inaction of the leaders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General's Office controlled by the coalition.

He particularly attracted media attention with two episodes. First - with a sensational (and at the same time poorly and clumsily argued) version voiced at a press conference and later on a popular television program Freedom of Speech about the allegedly planned assassination attempts on opposition leaders and members of Yushchenko's family. As a result, after the facts were made public, there were no arrests of anyone or assassination attempts against politicians. Then Geletey, just taking the post of head of the State Protection Administration, got involved in a scandalous story with the change of the chief of the General Prosecutor's Office - a loyal person to the coalition, Chief of the GPU Svyatoslav Piskun, to a person from the president's team, the newly appointed acting Prosecutor General Viktor Shemchuk. This change, as is known, was accompanied by a violent clash of security service employees with fighters of the special police unit Berkut, personally led by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vasyl Tsushko, and people's deputies from the Party of Regions.

After receiving the rank of lieutenant general in August 2007, regional deputy Volodymyr Sivkovych called Yushchenko's decision blatant overreach and compared the head of state with his predecessor Leonid Kuchma regarding the 'distribution of ranks for personal loyalty'.
