Sergey Yurievich Glazyev is a Russian economist and politician. From 2012 to 2019, he was the advisor to the President of the Russian Federation for regional economic integration. He has lost state awards from Ukraine and other honors according to the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from May 2, 2018.

Place of Birth. Education. He was born in Zaporizhzhia. In 1983, he graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University with a degree as an 'Economist-Cybernetician'. He then studied in the postgraduate program of the Central Institute of Economic and Mathematical Research of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1986, he defended his candidate dissertation and in 1990, his doctoral thesis.

Career. From 1986 to 1991, he was a research fellow, senior research fellow, and head of the laboratory of the Center for Economic Mathematical Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1991 to 1992, he was the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Economic Relations of the Russian Federation, and First Deputy Minister for Foreign Economic Relations of the Russian Federation. From 1992 to 1993, he served as Minister for Foreign Economic Relations of the Russian Federation. From 1994 to 1995, he was a deputy of the State Duma of the I convocation and Chairman of the Committee for Economic Policy. From 1996, he was head of the Department for Economic Security in the apparatus of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. From 1996 to 1999, he was head of the Information and Analytical Department in the apparatus of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. From 2000 to 2004, he was a deputy of the State Duma of the III convocation, first as Chairman of the Committee for Economic Policy and Entrepreneurship. Since November 2002, he has been a member of the Committee for Credit Institutions and Financial Markets. From 2004 to 2007, he was a deputy of the State Duma of the IV convocation, a member of the Committee for Health Protection, and a member of the Committee for Budget and Taxes. Since November 2008, he has been the Deputy Secretary-General of the Eurasian Economic Community (EEC). From February 2009 to January 2012, he was the Chief Secretary of the Customs Union Commission of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and the Russian Federation. Under his leadership, significant decisions of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Community, the highest organ of the Customs Union, were implemented. Since June 2012, he has been an advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, for regional economic integration. He is the representative of the President in the National Banking Council. During the 2012 presidential elections, he was appointed as the special envoy of candidate Putin. On October 9, 2019, he was relieved of his position as advisor to the president.

Awards. In 1999, he was awarded the title of 'Professor'. Since the year 2000, he has been a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and since 2008, a full member.

Family. Married, has two children.
