Ruslan Borisovich Khomchak - Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), military, Colonel General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2020-2021), Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2019-2020).

Place of Birth. Education. Born on June 5, 1967, in Rivne. He graduated from the Moscow Military Command College. He served in Germany and then in the Belarusian Red Banner Military District.

Career. Serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 1993. For seven years he served in the 24th separate mechanized brigade in Yavoriv in the Lviv region, where he returned as Chief of Staff after graduating from the National Defense Academy of Ukraine.

For four years he was the commander of the 300th separate mechanized regiment in Chernivtsi, and in April 2005, he became the commander of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade in Bila Tserkva.

From 2009 - Chief of Staff of the 8th Army Corps.

In 2011, Colonel Khomchak was awarded the military rank of Major General by order of the President of Ukraine.

In May 2012, Khomchak was promoted from his position as Chief of Staff of the 8th Army Corps to Commander of the 6th Army Corps, and in August 2013, he was awarded the military rank of Lieutenant General.

In November 2013, the 6th Army Corps was transformed into the Southern Command, whose acting commander became Ruslan Khomchak. At the same time, he was the commander of the Dnipro-Petrovsk Garrison.

From July to December 2014, Khomchak headed Sector 'B' of the Joint Forces in Eastern Ukraine. Khomchak coordinated the operation to withdraw troops from Ilovaisk. According to official reports, 366 soldiers died in the encirclement at that time, and 158 were missing. Khomchak stayed with his group until the end and escaped the encirclement with them.

In 2016, Khomchak commanded all Joint Forces in Eastern Ukraine on a rotation basis.

From 2016 to 2017 - Chief of Staff - First Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In 2017, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak appointed Khomchak as the Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Defense. Since then, he has been involved in many investigations of extraordinary events in the army.

On May 21, 2019, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, appointed Ruslan Khomchak as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, succeeding Viktor Muzhenko.

On December 5, 2019, he was awarded the rank of Colonel General.

On March 28, 2020, Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Ruslan Khomchak as the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to the separation of the positions of Chief of Staff and Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On July 27, 2021, Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Ruslan Khomchak from his position as Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Khomchak became Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

Declaration In 2018, Khomchak acquired two plots: in the Zhytomyr region (20 thousand square meters) and in the Chernihiv region (1,000 square meters). He drives a 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser.
