Roman Vasilievich Shukalo was born in Lviv. In 1968, he entered the Lviv Agrarian Institute and later completed his postgraduate studies at the Kyiv Agricultural Academy. After finishing his postgraduate studies, he defended his candidate dissertation and simultaneously served as the deacon of the Metropolitan of Lviv and Ternopil, Mitrofan (Yurki). In 1980, he entered the Odessa Theological Seminary. In 1991, he graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy.

Clerical Career.

Since 1979, he has been a psalmist in the Transfiguration Church in the settlement of Budenovka near Donetsk.
