Place of Birth. Education. Kim Jong Un is the third, youngest son of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. Grandson of the founder of the DPRK Kim Il Sung. Born in Pyongyang, the exact birth year is unknown - possibly 1982, 1983, or 1984. Differences in the birth date arise from the fact that the leader wanted to appear older.

According to South Korean intelligence, Kim Jong Un studied from 1993 to 1998 under the pseudonym Chol Pak at an international school in Bern, Switzerland. Officially, he was the son of the driver of the North Korean embassy in Switzerland. He left school at the age of 15 without taking exams. There is also a version that Kim Jong Un attended a school in Liebefeld-Steinhölzli, a suburb of Bern, from 1999 to 2000, again under the pseudonym - Pak Yun.

Since 2002 he studied individually at Kim Il Sung University and the Kim Il Sung Military Academy in the DPRK.

Career. In 2006 it became known that leading officials of the Workers' Party of Korea were awarded badges featuring portraits of Kim Jong Un, which led to speculation that Kim Jong Un would be his father's successor as head of North Korea.

In January 2009, Kim Jong Il issued a personal directive to the leaders of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), appointing Kim Jong Un as his successor. In April 2009, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that Kim had become a member of the DPRK National Defense Council.

On September 27, 2010, he was promoted to General of the Army. The next day, Kim Jong Un was appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Commission and a member of the WPK Central Committee during the Workers' Party of Korea congress.

In December 2011, a few days after his father's death, Kim Jong Il was recognized as the 'great successor' to Kim Jong Il. After that, he received the official designation as the Supreme Commander of the country's armed forces and was confirmed as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of North Korea.

On April 15, 2012, he appeared publicly for the first time at a military parade marking Kim Il Sung's 100th birthday.

Media reports initially indicated that Kim Jong Un was to share power in the country with his uncle Jang Song Thaek, who was the second most powerful man in the state during Kim Jong Il's lifetime. However, in December 2013, Jang Song Thaek was executed for treason.

Executions in North Korea are one of the usual instruments of Kim Jong Un's rule. In 2012, a decree was issued on how to deal with the enemies of the Korean people - the newly appointed leader of North Korea ordered that all underground criminals be sunk at sea.

In 2013, Kim Jong Un's former lover and 11 other members of a pop group were executed for alleged immoral acts. Others associated with them were made to witness the execution and were then sent to labor camps.

In 2014, 50 members of the North Korean government were executed for watching South Korean series.

In 2015, musicians from the North Korean national orchestra were executed on suspicion of espionage and sharing information about the dictator's family life. In August, there were reports that Kim Jong Un had ordered the execution of the country's Deputy Prime Minister Choe Pu Il, who disagreed with the policy of deforestation.

Since 2016, he has been Chairman of the National Defense Council of North Korea, re-elected in April 2019.

Family. In July 2012, North Korea's state television reported that Kim Jong Un is married. His wife - a graduate of Kim Il Sung University in Pyongyang, Li Sol Ju. According to media reports, Kim Jong Un has two children: the first child was born in 2010 or 2011, the second in 2012.

Hobbies. Kim Jong Un, like his father, loves pop culture and watches basketball games from the American NBA.

He does not have good health - in 2009 it was reported that he is overweight (90 kg at a height of 175 cm), has diabetes and hypertension.
