Vasiliy Kisil

Date of Birth: 28.10.1948

Education. National University of Kyiv Taras Shevchenko (International Law, 1976), Doctor of Law (International Private Law, 1980), Doctor of Law (International Private Law, 2001). Professor at the Department of International Private Law of the National University of Kyiv Taras Shevchenko.

Career. Vasiliy Kisil was for more than 15 years the head of the law firm 'Vasyl Kisil and Partners', and is currently the Senior Partner of the firm.

He is considered one of the leading Ukrainian experts in the fields of international private law, civil law, and investment law.

Member of the Public Council at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the 'Ukrainian Legal Foundation', member of the scientific and advisory boards of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine, the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine, member of the Permanent Arbitration Court in The Hague.

Advises the relevant parliamentary committee on improving legislation in the areas of concessions, natural resources, production sharing contracts, and rights of foreign investors.

Reviews and Awards. Vasiliy Kisil has repeatedly topped the lists of the best lawyers in Ukraine published in Ukrainian and international publications. The handbook The PLC Cross-border Mergers & Acquisitions Handbook 2007/08 named him as a leading Ukrainian expert in mergers and acquisitions.

For years, he has been at the top of the list of the most prominent lawyers in Ukraine according to the magazine 'Legal Firms of Ukraine'. The handbook 'Ukrainian Law Firms' (Handbook for Foreign Clients) recognized him as a leading expert on investment issues throughout the years of existence of this category.

He was included in the list of the top 50 lawyers in the country, conducted by the magazine 'Legal Newspaper' as part of the study 'Ukrainian Lawyers 2008. Clients' Choice'. In 2010, based on the results of the nationwide study 'Clients' Choice 2010', he was included in the list of the top 100 lawyers in Ukraine.

Awarded the Order 'For Merit' of III degree (for significant contribution to the development of higher education, training of highly qualified specialists).

Death. Vasiliy Kisil passed away on August 7, 2019, after a serious illness at the age of 70.
