Career. Since 1981 she has worked at the international law firm Baker & McKenzie as an expert in competition and labor law. She became a partner and was elected managing director in October 1999.

In June 2005, she was appointed French Minister for Foreign Trade.

From June 2007, she held the position of French Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry (the first woman in the history of the G7 countries to become finance minister).

On June 28, 2011, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund elected Christine Lagarde as Managing Director and Chair of the Fund's Executive Board. For the first time since the IMF was established in 1944, a woman stood at the head.

Lagarde replaced the then head of the IMF, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who resigned on May 19, 2011, due to a sexual scandal.
