Biography of Stepan Kubiv
Date of birth: 19.03.1962
Place of birth. Education. Born in the village of Mshanets, Zboriv District, Ternopil Oblast. In 1984, he graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics of Lviv Ivan Franko National University with a degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Teacher. In 2002, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Lviv Polytechnic National University.
Career. From 1983 to 1984, he was a laboratory assistant at the Department of Higher Mathematics at Lviv Ivan Franko National University. From 1984 to 1990, he was the secretary of the Komsomol Committee of Lviv Ivan Franko National University, head of the organizational department, head of the department of scientific and student youth of the regional Komsomol committee, secretary of the regional coordination council of scientific and technical creative youth, member of the academic council of LNU, deputy chairman of the coordination council under the Lviv Regional Executive Committee on the issues of scientific and technical creativity of youth, member of the auditing committee of the Central Committee of the Komsomol. He was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
From 1991 to 1994, he was the deputy director, then the director of scientific and technical creativity and new forms of management of the Lviv Regional Youth Scientific and Economic Association 'Student Lviv'.
In 1994, he was the director of the joint scientific and production enterprise 'Student Lviv' under the Lviv Regional Executive Committee.
Since 1994, he has worked at AT 'ZUKB' in positions ranging from a specialist in the planned economic department to the first deputy chairman of the board and acting chairman of the board.
From 2000 to 2008, he was the chairman of the board of PAT 'Kredobank' (in 2000 the bank was named AT 'ZUKB', 2003-2005 - PAT 'Credit Bank (Ukraine)').
From April 2006 to December 2012, he was a deputy of the Lviv Regional Council. He was first nominated on the 'Our Ukraine' list, and for the second time in October 2010 - already from the Front of Changes. He held the position of deputy chairman of the budget committee.
Since 2008, he has been an associate professor (part-time) at the National University 'Lviv Polytechnic', Department of Marketing and Logistics.
Since 2010, he has been a member of the supervisory board of the 'Lviv' bank.
In October 2010, he was nominated for the position of mayor of Lviv. He took fifth place, receiving more than 14 thousand votes.
From December 12, 2012, to November 2014, he was a people's deputy of Ukraine of the VII convocation from the party VO 'Batkivshchyna' under #23. He was the chairman of the regional election headquarters. In the Verkhovna Rada, he held the position of deputy chairman of the Committee on Finance and Banking.
During the mass anti-government protests in Ukraine in 2013-2014, Stepan Kubiv was the commander of the Euromaidan in Kyiv.
From February 24 to June 19, 2014, he was the chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On June 18, 2014, he published a statement about his resignation on his Facebook account, citing the desire to continue public political activity as the reason. The next day, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine relieved Stepan Kubiv of his duties as chairman of the National Bank. He was replaced in the position of NBU chairman by Valeriya Hontareva.
From November 27, 2014, to August 2019, he was a people's deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc (elected under #59). Member of the Committee on Financial Policy and Banking.
On January 15, 2015, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, appointed Kubiv as the President's representative in the Verkhovna Rada by his decree #19/2015.
On April 14, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, supporting the nomination of Volodymyr Groysman for his position. On the same day, the parliament approved a new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers, in which Stepan Kubiv took the position of Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economic Development.
In the early parliamentary elections of 2019, he was elected a deputy from the party European Solidarity, #12 on the party list.
Achievements. Candidate of Economic Sciences (2006), associate professor (October 2007). Author of about 50 works on economics, marketing, banking, and ecology.
He was awarded the Order of 'For Merit' III degree (February 2005), the Polish state award 'Golden Cross of Merit' from the President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczynski (2006).
Family. Married, raising a daughter.
Hobbies. Interested in football and hiking in the mountains.
