Place of Birth. Education. Born in Ivanovo (Russia). In 1979, he graduated from the Siberian Metallurgical Institute (specialization 'Metallurgical Engineer'). In 1990, he completed his studies at the Higher Commercial School of the Academy of Foreign Trade. In 1992, he graduated from the Academy of National Economy (specialization 'Economics and Management').

Career.Business. His career began in 1975 as an electrician at the company 'Juzhkuzbassugol'. After graduation, he worked at the scientific and technical company 'Tulatschermjet', where he rose from the assistant steelworker to the deputy department head.

From 1986, he worked in Kazakhstan, first as deputy chief engineer, then as deputy general director of the Karaganda Metallurgy Plant.

Since 1993, he has been a member of the boards of directors of several leading Russian metallurgical companies (Sayansky, Novokuznetsky, Bratsky Aluminum Works, Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine).

Since 1996, he has been a member of the supervisory board, and since 1998, chairman of the supervisory board of OAO 'Novolipetsky Metallurgical Combine' (OAO 'NLMK'). He heads the company's strategic planning committee.
