Playing Career. Graduate of the Sports School in Lviv.

From 1985 to 1988 he played for 'Torpedo' (Lutsk), in 1988 for 'SKA Karpaty' (Lviv), from 1989 to 1999 for 'Dynamo' (Kyiv), from 1999 to 2003 for 'Arsenal' (London, England), from 2003 to 2004 for 'Wolverhampton Wanderers' (Wolverhampton, England).

He played 8 matches for the USSR national team, 52 matches for the Ukrainian national team (39 as captain, a national record), 186 matches for 'Dynamo' (Kyiv) in the top Ukrainian league (13 goals), 67 matches for 'Dynamo' (Kyiv) in the top Soviet league, 52 matches for 'Dynamo' (Kyiv) in European competitions.

Achievements. Soviet Champion (1990).Soviet Cup Winner (1990).Ukrainian Champion (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999).Ukrainian Cup Winner (1993, 1996, 1998, 1999).English Champion (2002).English Cup Winner (2002, 2003).European Champion 1990 with youth national teams.

Coaching Career. In 2005 player-coach at 'Ventspils' (Latvia).

Since May 2006 he has been part of the coaching staff of 'Dynamo' (Kyiv).

From November to December 2007 he was the interim head coach of 'Dynamo' (Kyiv).

From January 2008 he was the assistant to the head coach of Dynamo (Kyiv) Yuriy Semin.

After Semin's promotion to head coach in 2009, he remained in this position. After Gazzaev's dismissal as head coach, Luzhny was again appointed interim coach of 'Dynamo' (Kyiv). After Semin's return to the capital club, he remained as an assistant coach in the coaching staff.

In June 2012 he took over 'Tavria' in Simferopol. By the end of the year, the team finished in 11th place in the table, which is the worst result in the last 10 years in the club's history. The club's management terminated Luzhny's contract early on July 15, 2013.

In January 2016, he took over 'Karpaty' (Lviv).

From June 2017 to August 2019 he was the assistant to the head coach of 'Dynamo' (Kyiv) Oleksandr Khatskevich.

Personal Life. Married. In 1992 he married Eleonora (a former artist of the leading ice ballet in Ukraine). From his first marriage, he has two daughters - Olga and Kristina. In June 2017, he married for the second time, his wife is Yulia.
