Place of birth. Education. Queen Margrethe II was born on April 16, 1940, at Amalienborg Palace. Her parents were King of Denmark Frederick IX and Queen Ingrid, née Princess of Sweden. The queen is the third granddaughter of King Christian X. She was named after the Crown Princess of Sweden, Margareta Konnäsin, her maternal grandmother.
