Alexander Ivanovich Melnichenko

- former first deputy chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Kyiv. From a young age, he had a good ear for music, so in addition to regular school, he attended the Kyiv Special Music School named after Lysenko. His interest in music led him to study orchestral and choral conducting at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Kyiv from 1969 to 1972.

After serving in the military, he decided to 'reorient himself professionally' and graduated from the Law Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Career. 1981-1987 - People's Judge of the October District Court in Kyiv.

1987-1993 - Judge at the Kyiv City Court (was a member of judicial panels for criminal and civil cases).

Since 1993, Deputy, and from August 2001, First Deputy Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine. During all those years, he worked as First Deputy Chairman of AMCU under the guidance of Oleksiy Kostusyev.

On June 18, 2008, he was appointed acting chairman of the AMCU by the Cabinet of Yulia Tymoshenko. On June 25, 2010, he was dismissed at the request of the Cabinet under Mykola Azarov with the formulation 'at his own request.'

From 2011 to February 2013, he was the Deputy Head of the Department for Industrial and Economic Security, Labor Protection, and Civil Defense, Head of the Internal Financial Control Department of the Ministry of Energy and Coal.

Views and Assessments. Alexander Melnichenko actively participated in the development of Ukrainian antitrust law. In particular, in Article 42 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the laws 'On the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine', 'On Protection from Unfair Competition', 'On the Protection of Competition' (over 200 laws and other legal norms were adopted with his involvement).

He was the author of the course 'Ukrainian Competition Law' and teaching materials for domestic universities. He regularly appears in various publications on competition law. He is actively engaged in teaching.

Awards. Honored Lawyer of Ukraine. Awarded the Order 'For Merit' of the III degree. In 2002, he was named the winner of the All-Ukrainian competition 'Lawyer of the Year' in the category 'Lawyer - employee of state and municipal administration bodies'.

Honorary member of the Association of Lawyers of Ukraine, member of the Executive Committee of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine, the Fund for Supporting Legal and Political Reforms.

Family. A. Melnichenko is married. His wife, Tetiana Oleksivna, is an economist.

Interests. Theosophy, classical music, literature, painting, folk songs, gardening.
