Born on December 21, 1962, in New York to a Jewish family. Mnuchin attended Riverdale Country School in New York. He graduated from Yale University in 1985 with a Bachelor's degree. Member of the secret society Skull and Bones, the oldest secret society of Yale University students.
Career.
After graduating from Yale University in 1985, Mnuchin began working at Goldman Sachs, where his father had been employed since 1957. Mnuchin started in the mortgage department and became a partner at Goldman in 1994. By the time he left the firm in 2002, Mnuchin held positions as Vice President and IT Director, earning 40 million USD.
After leaving Goldman Sachs in 2002, Mnuchin briefly served as Deputy Head of the hedge fund ESL Investments, owned by his college roommate at Yale University, Edward Lampert.
The following year, he co-founded the hedge fund SFM Capital Management with financier George Soros, who invested one billion dollars.
Later, Mnuchin founded Dune Capital with Chip Zilig and Daniel Neidich, which began financing film productions in 2006. In 2007, the company struck a deal with 20th Century Fox worth 500 million dollars to invest in the production of 'Avatar' and some films in the 'X-Men' series. Dune also later signed a deal with Warner Brothers.
In 2013, Mnuchin merged his business with Brett Ratner and James Packer, leading to the formation of RatPac-Dune Entertainment, which financed films such as 'American Sniper' and 'Mad Max: Fury Road.'
In 2014, he invested in Relativity Media but was able to exit before the company filed for bankruptcy in 2015.
In 2016, Mnuchin was responsible for the finances of Donald Trump's campaign, and in November of that year, the media began to refer to him as a possible candidate for Secretary of the Treasury in the future cabinet of the elected president.
On November 30, 2016, Trump officially announced that he intended to nominate Mnuchin to the Senate for confirmation as Secretary of the Treasury.

Steven Mnuchin is the son of Elena Turner Cooper from New York and Robert Mnuchin from Washington (Connecticut). Elena Turner was Vice Chair of the International Advisory Board of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Director of the Byrd Hoffman Foundation, which promotes the arts. Robert Mnuchin was Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, responsible for equity trading and a member of the management committee. He was also the founder of the art gallery C&M Arts in New York. Robert and his second wife, Adriana, also own the Mayflower Inn in Washington, Connecticut, and Adriana is a board member of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
In 1999, Steven Mnuchin married Heather Crosby, who was Vice President of Launch Media. The couple divorced in 2014.
In 2016, Mnuchin got engaged to British citizen and actress Louise Linton, who became involved in a public scandal following the release of her memoir about her life in Zambia.
