NATO

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) — is an international military-political alliance that unites 31 countries from Europe and North America (as of 2024). NATO news affects all European countries, including Ukraine. 

Initially, NATO was created as such a large organization to ensure the security of all the countries that are its members. The main system is based on collective defense.

NATO was created for armed conflict situations, but the organization itself operates continuously. Therefore, global events in the world receive NATO's response, and that of all its members. 

As for the principle of operation, it is possible to highlight: 

1. Collective defense (Article 5 of the Washington Treaty). NATO's central principle — an attack on one member of the alliance is considered an attack on all. This ensures support for each participant in the event of a threat.

2. Political cooperation. NATO is not only a military but also a political alliance. Member countries work to address global challenges such as terrorism, cyber threats, and climate change.

3. Transparency and consensus. All decisions are made unanimously, allowing consideration of the interests of each member of the alliance.

4. Adaptation to new challenges. In 2024, NATO is actively engaged in cybersecurity, responding to hybrid threats, and modernizing its military forces.

In 2022, NATO became a key element of the war in Ukraine. 

NATO's Goals: How the Organization Works in 2024?

Such a large organization has its own goals. First and foremost, it is the protection of all countries that are part of the organization. The alliance ensures the protection of the territorial integrity of the participating countries.

NATO also supports peace and stability, primarily in Europe. NATO participates in peacekeeping missions and prevents conflicts. Among other things, this organization collaborates with partners. The alliance actively cooperates with states that are not its members through programs such as “Partnership for Peace”.

NATO and Ukraine

Since 2014, Ukraine has been actively cooperating with NATO, striving to align with the alliance's standards. After the start of Russia's full-scale aggression in 2022, cooperation has intensified.

NATO provides Ukraine:

1. Military assistance (weapons, training);

2. Support for reforms (implementation of alliance standards);

3. Humanitarian assistance (aid to affected regions).

Overall, NATO plays an important role in Ukraine's security.
