Francois Hollande

Personal Life and Career

Francois Hollande was born on August 12, 1954, in Rouen. He received his education at the HEC Paris Business School and the Paris Institute of Political Studies. In 1980, he graduated from the National School of Administration.

Hollande began his career as a student volunteering in Francois Mitterrand's presidential campaign. In 1979, he joined the Socialist Party and worked as an auditor before later becoming a member of the president's economic advisory team.

Hollande served as a member of the National Assembly from 1988 to 1993 and again from 1997 to 2012. He was Mayor of Tulle from 2001 to 2008. In May 2012, Hollande won the presidential elections representing the Socialist Party.

Presidency

At the end of his first term, Hollande implemented several reforms, such as the legalization of same-sex marriage and the fight against Islamic terrorism. However, unsuccessful economic policies and the failure to keep promises led to a decline in Hollande's popularity and that of the Socialist Party.

In foreign policy, Hollande maintained close relations with the Obama administration and Chancellor Merkel. He also actively opposed Russia's aggression in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea.

Personal Life

From 1978 to 2007, Hollande was in a domestic partnership with Segolene Royal, with whom he has four children. From 2007 to 2014, he was in a relationship with journalist Valerie Trierweiler. It later became known that Hollande dated actress Julie Gayet.

Francois Hollande did not run for a second term as president and supported Emmanuel Macron in the 2017 elections.
