Petro Filippovych Pilipchuk - Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine (2011-2013).
Place of Birth. Education. Born in the village of Ternavtsy in the Izyaslav district of Khmelnytskyi Oblast. In 1973, he graduated from the Law Faculty of Kharkiv University (specialization - 'Law').
Career. Since 1973 - People's Judge at the City Court of the Dsershynskyi District in Kharkiv.
From 1976, a judge at the Kharkiv Oblast Court.
1980-1983 Deputy Head of the Justice Department of the Executive Committee of the Oblast Council of Kharkiv.
Since September 1983, a judge of the Supreme Court of Ukraine. In May 1997, he was elected as a lifetime judge of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
Since December 2002, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, from June 2004 First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
In 2005 and 2008, he was elected Chairman of the Judicial Council of Ukraine.
On December 23, 2011, he was elected Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine (before him, Vasyl Onopenko held this position).
He is involved in legislation, in particular, he participated in the development of the new law 'On the Judicial Organization of Ukraine'. He is a member of the working group preparing a draft of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Head of the working group preparing a draft of the Ukraine Code of Administrative Offenses.
Chairman of the Editorial Board of the 'Bulletin of the Supreme Court of Ukraine' journal.
On September 13 2012 he submitted his resignation after on October 13 2012 he reached the maximum age for judges.
On April 18, 2013, he was relieved of his duties as Chairman of the Supreme Court because he reached the maximum age for judges, according to the decision of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Awards. Judge of the highest qualification class. Honored Lawyer of Ukraine (1995). Awarded the Order 'For Merit' III class.
Death. Died on December 18, 2022, at the age of 76.
