On October 11, 2008, Peter defended his WBC title - the most prestigious in boxing - in Berlin. The opponent of the Nigerian was Vitali Klitschko, for whom this fight was his first in the last four years. The Ukrainian left the reigning titleholder with no chances of victory, and after the eighth round, Peter's managers announced that he would not continue the fight. After the fight, in which Samuel had previously promised to take down the Ukrainian giant, he called Vitali a great champion and expressed hope for collaboration with the promotion agency 'Klitschko Management Group' in Germany and Europe.
