Birthdate: 11.11.1958

Nikolai Nikolajewitsch Mittag - former Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine.

Place of birth. Education. Born in Gurzuf, Yalta District of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. In 1985, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Career. From 1975 to 1980 (with a break for military service), he worked as a mechanic and senior technician at the Kyiv Institute of Metallo-physics. From May 1980 to February 1996, he served as an operational investigator, investigative officer, senior investigator, and first deputy head of the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kyiv region.

1996-1997 - Head of the Department for Organizational Support of Courts and Judicial Reform, Head of Human Resources, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine - Senior Administrator.

The next phase of his working life included leading the 'Ukrainian Integrity' program of the public organization 'Ukrainian Legal Foundation'.

From February 1999 to March 2005, he headed the Kyiv law firm 'Professional'. He collaborated on educational projects in the third sector (particularly regarding legal relations between the media and the government).

Work in the Yushchenko team. During the 'Orange Revolution', he, along with fellow lawyers, proved at the Supreme Court of Ukraine that the results of the second round of the 2004 presidential election were falsified. He also gained notoriety by successfully defending the interests of Viktor Yushchenko's wife - Kateryna (then Chumachenko) in court. She accused the controversial Russian television presenter Mikhail Leontiev of defamation and 'direct interference in her personal life'. In April 2001, M. Leontiev claimed on the television program 'Odnako' on the ORT channel (Russia) that Katerina Chumachenko, then a citizen of the USA, was attempting to oust the then President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma through her intrigues and that she and Viktor Yushchenko were supported by powerful American forces seeking to create a rift between Ukraine and Russia. Later, the scandalous journalist was declared a persona non grata on the banks of the Dnipro.

From March 2005, Mykola Poludennyi was an advisor to the Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko. After that, he was an advisor - head of the Main Department for Legal Policy of the Presidential Secretariat.

From October 2006 - again an advisor. During his work at Bankova Street, he participated in developing legal justifications for the most controversial initiatives of the head of state. Among other things - regarding the dissolution of the fifth parliament of Ukraine and the dismissal of judges of the Constitutional Court in spring 2007.

On March 20, 2008, Viktor Yushchenko accepted the resignation of Mykola Poludennyi. The reasons for the departure from the presidential secretariat were not disclosed.

On June 11, 2008, he was appointed as Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine by a government decree signed by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

In March 2010, Mykola Azarov replaced dismissed Mykola Poludennyi as Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
