Biography of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine

Date of birth: 16.02.1937

Place of birth. Education. Born in the village of Holynka, Bakhmach district, Chernihiv region. In 1960, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Ivan Franko Lviv State University.

Career. From 1960 to 1963, he worked as an investigative prosecutor in the Novotroitsky and Henichesk districts of Kherson region. From 1963 to 1969, he was a senior investigator, prosecutor, and deputy head of the investigative department of the Kherson prosecutor's office. From 1969 to 1973, he worked as an instructor in the department of administrative and trade-finance bodies of the Kherson regional committee of the Communist Party. From 1973 to 1975, he led the justice department of the Kherson regional executive committee. From 1975 to 1978, he was the deputy head of administrative bodies of the Kherson regional committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU). From 1978 to 1983, he served as the prosecutor of the Kherson region. From 1983 to 1987, he was the deputy, and from 1987 to 1990, the first deputy prosecutor of the Ukrainian SSR.

Prosecutor of Ukraine. From February 1990 to September 1991, he held the position of prosecutor of the Ukrainian SSR. From October 1991 to June 1992, he was the deputy prosecutor of the Kherson region. From 1990 to 1994, he was a member of the First Convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a member of the Legislative and Law Commission (from 1992, he worked in the parliament on a permanent basis). From 1994 to 1996, he served as the deputy Central Ukrainian transport prosecutor. From 1996 to 1997, he held the position of prosecutor of the Kyiv region. From October 1997 to July 1998, he held the position of prosecutor of Kyiv. From July 1998 to April 2002, he served as the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, and was a member of the High Council of Justice.

Deputy of Ukraine. From 2002 to 2006, he was a member of the Fourth Convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Communist Party (№20 on the election list). During his term, he was a member of multiple parliamentary groups: "Democratic Initiatives", "Narodovladie", "Union", "Democratic Ukraine", and the People's Bloc of Lytvyn. He was a member of the Committee on Legislative Support for Law Enforcement Activities.

Consultant to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine. Since 2010, he has been working as a consultant to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.

Awards. He is an Honored Lawyer of Ukraine. He was awarded two Orders "Badge of Honor", the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise V and IV (in 2000 and 2002 by President Leonid Kuchma) and III (in 2007 by President Viktor Yushchenko) degrees.

Family. Married, has a son.
