Place of Birth. Education. Born in Lagos, Nigeria. After finishing school, he studied law at the University of Bonn. In 1986, he defended his doctoral thesis.
Career. He entered the diplomatic service of Germany in 1988.
1990 - Staff member at the German consulate in St. Petersburg.
1992 - Advisor for Russia at the Federal Foreign Office, Bonn.
1996 - Staff member of the legal department at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations, New York.
1999 - Deputy Head of the EU Policy and Institutional Affairs Division at the Federal Foreign Office, Berlin.
2003 - NATO, Brussels, Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
2007 - Federal Foreign Office, Head of the Division for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and Eastern Partnership.
2001 - Ambassador of Germany to Kosovo.
2013 - Federal Foreign Office, Commissioner for Southeast Europe, Turkey, and countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
From August 2016 to July 2019 - Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine. He succeeded Christoph Weil in this position (2012-2016). He presented his credentials to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on September 8, 2016.
Since August 2019 - Ambassador of Germany to Greece.
