Film Career. The young actor had his first screen appearance in 1999 in the BBC television film 'David Copperfield'. That same year, he auditioned for the role of Harry James Potter in director Chris Columbus's film 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'. Filming began in 2000 and the film was released in 2001. The film was a great success, with a worldwide box office gross exceeding $970 million. Before that, Radcliffe had a small role in the film 'The Tailor of Panama' (with Pierce Brosnan and Geoffrey Rush in the lead roles).
