Davíd Georgíjewitsch Sakvarėlídžė - Deputy Attorney General of Ukraine (2015-2016) and simultaneously Prosecutor of the Odessa Region (2015-2016). Previously, he served as Deputy Attorney General of Georgia (2008-2012). He was a member of the Parliament of Georgia from 2012 to 2015.
Place of Birth. Education. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2004, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ilia State University of Tbilisi. From 2001 to 2002, he studied at the Political Science Institute of St. Bonaventure University (New York, USA) and from 2006 to 2007 at the Institute for Regional Management of Toyo University in Itakura (Japan).
Career. Davíd Sakvarėlídžė began his professional career in 2003 at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia as a legal review expert.
2003-2004 - Member of the State Commission for Legal Reforms and Terminology of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.
2004-2005 - Chief Advisor of the Office for Drafting Legislation and Legal Review in the Presidential Administration of Georgia for Cooperation with the Government and Other State Bodies and Legal Matters.
2005 - Chief Advisor of the Office for Drafting Legislation and Legal Review in the Presidential Administration of Georgia for Cooperation with the Government and Other State Bodies and Legal Matters.
2005-2006 - Head of the Urban Service of the General Inspection for Law and Order of the Tbilisi City Administration.
From April to June 2007 - Deputy Head of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Georgia.
From June to July 2007 - Prosecutor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti.
2007-2008 - Davíd Sakvarėlídžė served as the Prosecutor of the Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Tianeti regions.
2008-2009 - First Deputy Attorney General of Georgia - Prosecutor of Tbilisi.
2009-2012 - First Deputy Attorney General of Georgia. During his visit to Ukraine in the spring of 2012, Ukrainian media referred to Sakvarėlídžė as the 'terror of the criminal world' in Georgia.
2012-2015 - Davíd Sakvarėlídžė was elected as a member of the Parliament of Georgia for the National Movement.
Since February 11, 2015, Sakvarėlídžė has been a citizen of Ukraine.
From February 16, 2015, Davíd Sakvarėlídžė was appointed as the Deputy Attorney General of Ukraine under Viktor Shokin and confirmed as a member of the Board of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
Shokin expressed the expectation that Sakvarėlídžė would also deal with the extension of sanctions against former officials close to Viktor Yanukovych, against whom the EU threatens to lift sanctions.
Shokin also expressed confidence that Sakvarėlídžė’s participation in the competition for the position of head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau would not interfere with his work in the GPU.
On September 16, 2015, Davíd Sakvarėlídžė was appointed Prosecutor of the Odessa Region. The Deputy Attorney General will hold both positions concurrently. The official noted that he would retain his office in the Prosecutor General's Office in Kyiv, but would primarily be based in Odessa.
On March 24, 2016, Sakvarėlídžė stated that there were dismissals of officials in the Prosecutor General's Office involved in the investigations of the 'diamond' prosecutors case. Later, Sakvarėlídžė stated in a talk show that searches had begun in his team. On March 25, he participated in an action before the GPU, demanding the removal of Viktor Shokin.
On March 29, 2016, the day of the vote on the removal of Attorney General Viktor Shokin, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office announced that Davíd Sakvarėlídžė had been dismissed from the Prosecutor’s Office. Simultaneously, Sakvarėlídžė was held disciplinarily accountable for 'gross violations of the rules of prosecutor ethics, unlawful interference with the official activity of another prosecutor, actions damaging to the prosecutor, failure to fulfill and inadequate fulfillment of official duties'.
Since November 2016, Davíd Sakvarėlídžė has formed a new political platform with Mikhail Saakashvili named Rukh Novikh Syl.
Awards. Davíd Sakvarėlídžė was awarded the Order of Honor in 2008.
