Place of Birth. Education. Grant Shapps was born on September 14, 1968, in Watford. He comes from a family of British Jews and was involved in the Jewish youth organization BBYO in his youth. He studied finance and management at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Career. He founded his own company called PrintHouse, which provided printing and advertising services as well as later internet services.

Political Career. In 1997, he failed in the Conservative Party's House of Commons elections in the London constituency of North Southwark and Bermondsey. In 2001, he made another unsuccessful attempt in the Welwyn Hatfield constituency in Hertfordshire, but in 2005, Shapps was elected in that final constituency.

Shortly after the election of a new party leader, David Cameron, Shapps was appointed Vice President of the Conservative Party and was responsible for election matters. In 2007, he became the Conservative spokesperson for housing. He was not a member of the official shadow government but had the right to attend its meetings.

From 2010 to 2012, he was Junior Minister for Housing and Local Government in David Cameron's cabinet.

During the cabinet reshuffle in 2012, he was appointed Vice President of the Party (along with Lord Feldman) and became a non-deartmental minister at cabinet rank.

On May 7, 2015, the next general election took place, in which Grant Shapps won in his constituency of Welwyn Hatfield.

On May 11, 2015, David Cameron formed a new cabinet in which Shapps was appointed Junior Minister for International Development.

On November 28, 2015, Shapps resigned as Junior Minister for International Development.

On July 24, 2019, he was appointed Minister of Transport in Boris Johnson's government.

On October 19, 2022, he was appointed Home Secretary of the United Kingdom in Liz Truss's cabinet.

On October 25, 2022, Rishi Sunak's cabinet was formed, in which Shapps received the portfolio for entrepreneurship, energy, and industrial strategy.

On February 7, 2023, Prime Minister Sunak carried out a government reform that, among other things, created the new Ministry of Energy Security and Net Zero, and appointed Shapps as its head.

On August 31, 2023, he succeeded Ben Wallace as Minister of Defence in Rishi Sunak's government.

Personal Life. In 1997, Shapps married Belinda Goldstone. In 2000, the family faced a severe trial when Grant was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy. The couple has three children.

He is the cousin of the famous punk rocker Mick Jones.

Hobbies and Interests. In his spare time, Shapps enjoys flying his own light aircraft, the Piper PA-32R.
