Sergei Viktorovich Skripal - former officer of the military intelligence of Russia

Sergei Viktorovich Skripal was born on June 23, 1951, in Kyiv. In 1972, he graduated from the Military Technical School in Kaliningrad and was enrolled in the Kuybyshev Military Technical Academy. After the Academy, Skripal joined the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU). In 1999, he retired with the rank of colonel.

In 2006, Skripal was convicted in Russia for espionage on behalf of Britain and sentenced to prison. In 2010, he was pardoned by President Dmitry Medvedev and sent abroad from Russia. Afterwards, Skripal settled in the United Kingdom.

In the UK, Skripal gave lectures on the Russian military intelligence and provided advice on military espionage matters.

On March 4, 2018, Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench in Salisbury. They were hospitalized in serious condition with poisoning from a nerve agent. The British authorities considered this a murder attempt and accused Russia of organizing the attack.

After this incident, Sergei Skripal and Yulia changed their names and moved to New Zealand.
