Alexander Schlapak

Alexander Vilievich Schlapak is a Ukrainian politician and financier. Minister of Finance of Ukraine (from February 27, 2014, to December 2, 2014). Chairman of the Board of PrivatBank (2016-2017).
Place of Birth. Education. Born in Irkutsk (Russia). In 1982, he graduated from Lviv Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Automation Systems.
Career. From 1982 to 1984, Schlapak worked as a programmer engineer at the computing center of Lviv Polytechnic. From 1984 to 1990, he held positions such as Secretary of the Komsomol Committee of his home institute, Head of the Department of Komsomol Organizations of the Lviv Regional Committee of Komsomol, Head of the Department for Student Youth of the Central Committee of LKSMU, and First Secretary of the Lviv Regional Committee of Komsomol. From 1990 to 1993, Schlapak was the Chairman of the Oblast Council of the Democratic Youth Union of Lviv.
From 1993 to 1998, he held managerial positions at PrivatBank. He was the Director of the Lviv branch, Head of the Western Department of the headquarters, and Deputy Chairman of the Board of PrivatBank.
From 1998 to 2000, Schlapak led a group of advisors to the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for economic issues.
From 2000 to 2001, he was the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine.
From July 2001 to November 2002, he headed the Ministry of Economy and European Integration Affairs of Ukraine.
From January 2003 to February 2005, he served as the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.
From 2001 to 2003, he was a member of the National Security and Defense Council, the Coordinating Council for the functioning of the securities market in Ukraine, the State Commission for Economic and Social Development Strategy, the State Commission for the Implementation of Administrative Reform in Ukraine, and the Commission for Organizing the Activities of Technoparks and Innovative Structures of Other Types.
From October 2005 to August 2006, Schlapak headed the State Treasury of Ukraine. In November 2006, he was appointed by President Viktor Yushchenko as the head of the Main Department for Socio-Economic Development of the Presidential Office of Ukraine.
On March 23, 2007, he took the position of First Deputy Head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine - the President's representative in the Cabinet. He left the office along with Yushchenko in February 2010.
From February 27 to December 2, 2014, he was the Minister of Finance of Ukraine (in the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk) and succeeded Yuri Kolobov.
On December 18, 2016, the government announced the nationalization of PrivatBank, and Alexander Schlapak was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Bank.
On July 20, 2017, the Supervisory Board of PrivatBank approved Alexander Schlapak's resignation as head of PrivatBank.
Family. Married, has two daughters.
