Viktor Nikolaevich Shokin - Attorney General of Ukraine (2015-2016).

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Kyiv. 1970-1972 - Studied at the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy. In 1980 he graduated from the Dzerzhinsky Institute in Kharkiv and obtained a legal education.

Career. In 1972, Viktor Shokin worked as a technician at the Central Republican Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Kyiv.

From 1973 to 1975, he served in the Soviet Army (Yoshkar-Ola).

From 1975 to 1976, he was a senior technician at the Orion Research Institute.

In 1980, he was an intern at the Prosecutor's Office of the Moscow District in Kyiv.

From 1981 to 1989, Viktor Shokin was an investigator and senior investigator in the Prosecutor's Office of the Moscow District in Kyiv.

From 1989 to 1994, Shokin held positions as a senior investigator and investigator for particularly important cases in the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyiv.

From 1994 to 1997, Shokin was head of the department overseeing the compliance with laws by special units combating organized crime at the Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv.

From 1997 to 1998, he was head of the department overseeing the compliance with laws by special units combating organized crime in the surveillance department of the Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv, which dealt with operational and investigative activities.

From 1998 to 2001, he was an investigator for particularly important cases in the Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.

In 2001, Viktor Shokin refused to investigate the case of Yulia Tymoshenko. He stated that this decision was based on personal and professional reasons and he would still reject this case today.

From 2002 to 2003 and from 2004 to 2007, he was Deputy Attorney General of Ukraine (under Svyatoslav Piskun).

From 2007 to 2014, Viktor Shokin was retired.

On June 26, 2014, Shokin was appointed Deputy Attorney General of Ukraine and head of the main department for oversight in criminal proceedings, and became a member of the Collegium of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.

On February 11, 2015, Viktor Shokin was appointed Attorney General of Ukraine by decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. He replaced Vitaliy Yahremu in this position.

On February 16, 2016, Poroshenko urged the head of the Prosecutor General's Office to resign. A few days later, it became known that the Attorney General had submitted a resignation request, and on February 19, the procedure for dismissing Shokin as Attorney General was presented to the Parliament.

On March 29, 2016, the Parliament supported the dismissal of Viktor Shokin as Attorney General of Ukraine, and on April 3, President Poroshenko signed a decree on Shokin's dismissal.

Awards. Viktor Shokin is a deserving lawyer of Ukraine.

Family. Shokin's daughter Tatiana Gonostayeva is Deputy Prosecutor of the Odessa region. Tatiana's husband Alexei Gornostaev was appointed Deputy Prosecutor of Kyiv District in Odessa on September 30, 2014. Tatiana's father Nikolai Gornostaev is Deputy Prosecutor of the Dnipropetrovsk region.

According to Tatiana Gonostayeva, Viktor Shokin was not her biological father, but was married to her mother for a time. 'I know Viktor Nikolaevich, but I am not his biological daughter, as I was born in a different marriage. For a time, he was my mother's husband, but that union has not existed for over ten years,' said Gonostayeva in an interview with 368.media.

Ukrainian Truth reported that Shokin is the godfather of Petro Poroshenko. The new Attorney General responded to this question back in 2005: 'I actually know Petro Alekseevich, but we are not godfathers. I have not baptized his children, nor has he baptized mine,' Viktor Shokin told the magazine Fraza.
