Blessed Swjatoslaw (Schewtschuk Swjatoslaw Yurievich) - Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Since March 27, 2011 - Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych, Metropolitan of Kyiv.
Place of Birth. Education. Born in the city of Stryi in the Lviv region. In 1991-1992, he studied at the 'Don Bosco' Center for Philosophical and Theological Studies in Buenos Aires (Argentina), from 1992-1994 - at the Theological Seminary of Lviv. From 1994-1999, he studied at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Italy), where he graduated with the honors 'Summa cum laude' in the fields of theological anthropology and the foundations of moral theology of the Byzantine theological tradition.
Priestly Career. Ordained as a deacon in May 1994, and as a priest in June 1994.

From 1999-2000, he was the Prefect of the Theological Seminary of the Holy Spirit in Lviv.
From 2000-2007, he served as the Vice-Rector of the Theological Seminary of the Holy Spirit in Lviv.
Since 2001, he is the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Theological Academy in Lviv (now the Ukrainian Catholic University).
In 2002-2005, he was the Head of the Secretariat and personal secretary to the Blessed Lubomyr (Huzar), Head of the Patriarchal Curia in Lviv.
Since June 2007, he has been the Rector of the Theological Seminary of the Holy Spirit in Lviv.
On January 14, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI blessed the decision of the Bishops' Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to appoint Swjatoslaw Schewtschuk as the auxiliary bishop of the Eparchy of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God in Buenos Aires (Argentina). The episcopal consecration took place in April 2009 at the Archiepiscopal Cathedral of St. George in Lviv.
In April 2010, he was appointed apostolic administrator of the Eparchy of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God in Buenos Aires.
On March 24, 2011, he was elected head of the UGCC by the Bishops' Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. He succeeded Lubomyr Huzar, who resigned in February 2011.
