Ivan Sewida

Date of Birth: 15.02.1950
Place of Birth. Education. He was born in the village of Patskanevo in the Uzhhorod Rayon of the Transcarpathian Region. In 1971, he graduated from Uzhhorod State University. In 1975, he graduated from the Orzhonikidze Advanced Military Command School. In 1980, he attended the M.V. Frunze Military Academy. In 1992, he completed the General Staff Academy.
Career. He began his officer service in 1972 as the commander of a motorized infantry company in the Prikarpaty Military District.
1974-1977 - Commander of a motorized infantry battalion, Chief of Staff of a motorized infantry battalion, Commander of a motorized infantry battalion.
After graduating from the Frunze Academy, he was appointed as the deputy commander of a motorized infantry regiment in the Transcaucasian Military District.
1982-1990 - Chief of Staff - Deputy Commander, Commander of a motorized infantry regiment, Deputy Commander of a motorized infantry division.
After completing his studies at the General Staff Academy, he was appointed commander of a tank division in the Odessa Military District.
1994-1998 - Chief of Staff - First Deputy Commander, Commander of an army corps.
1998-2007 - First Deputy Commander, Commander of the Southern Command of the Ground Forces of Ukraine.
2007-2009 - Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On November 13, 2009, he was appointed Chief of the General Staff - Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by order of President Viktor Yushchenko.
In May 2010, he was dismissed by a decree of President Viktor Yanukovych after submitting his resignation. When explaining the reasons for this decision, Ivan Sewida said: 'As an officer and a responsible person, I am ready to work under difficult conditions to strengthen the defense of the country. In the current situation, I acknowledge the President's right to implement his vision for the development of the armed forces. He will do this with another Chief of the General Staff.' Ivan Sewida was replaced by Grigory Pedchenko.
Awards. His military rank is Army General (awarded on February 15, 2010). He has been awarded many orders, medals, and honors from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Family. Married. Has a son and a daughter.
