Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is the 4th Emir of Qatar since June 25, 2013.

Birthplace. Education. Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was born on June 3, 1980, in the capital of Qatar, Doha. He was appointed heir apparent in 2003 after his older brother Jassim refused. He studied in the UK at the Sherborne School in Dorset (which he later replicated in Doha). He also completed high school at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst and served in the Qatari army. He speaks fluent English and French.

At the Helm of the Emirate. After returning home, he significantly assisted his father in governing the country. In the summer of 2013, his father Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani decided to transfer power in favor of his son. On June 25, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani became the new Emir of Qatar. Under his leadership, a conflict with Saudi Arabia arose in 2014, supported by Bahrain and the UAE. In March 2014, Saudi Arabia withdrew its ambassador from Doha, followed by Bahrain and the UAE. The three countries issued a joint statement accusing Qatar of violating the security cooperation agreement (signed in December 2013 in Riyadh) and interacting with “organizations posing a threat to the security and stability of the Council’s member states.” The conflict was only resolved in November of that year when the five member states of the Council (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait) reached an agreement in Riyadh.

On June 5, 2017, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates announced a downgrade of diplomatic relations and also banned air, sea, and land traffic to Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorist groups. Additionally, the Qatari contingent in Yemen, which participates in the conflict as part of the Arab coalition against the Houthis, must be withdrawn.

Sheikh Tamim bin Khalifa Al Thani is one of the youngest heads of state in the world.

He is the youngest constitutional monarch in the world. He is the youngest Emir of Qatar in the entire history of the country's independence.

Sports. Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani pays great attention to sports. He is the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and a member of the International Olympic Committee from Qatar. He was the chairman of the organizing committee for the 2020 Olympic Games in Doha. However, this initiative was not pursued as the IOC did not allow the capital of Qatar to host the finals.

Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is strongly committed to promoting sports in the country. Qatar is fighting not only for the right to host the Olympic Games but also for many world championships in various sports. It should be noted that the capital of the country, Doha, will host the World Championship in boxing, and in 2022, another football World Cup will be held in the country. Previously, the Indoor World Championship in Athletics took place in Doha in 2010.

Family. In March 2005, Sheikh Tamim married his first wife (his cousin) Sheikha Jawahir bint Hamad bin Suhaim. They have two sons and two daughters.

On March 3, 2009, Sheikh Tamim married his second wife Anoud bint Mana Al Hajri. She is the daughter of Mana bin Abdul Hadi Al Hajri, Qatar's ambassador to Jordan. They have four children, two daughters and two sons.

On January 8, 2014, Sheikh Tamim married his third wife, Sheikha Noora bint Khalid Al Thani. They have two sons.
